I was born and raised in Chicago, IL where I grew up swimming and playing water polo. My love for water polo took me to Los Angeles, where I obtained my B.A. in psychology from Occidental College. After graduating, I went back to the Windy City to pursue my Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in School Psychology. As a bilingual school psychologist, I’ve had the opportunity to work in school districts located in Alaska, California, Nevada, and Texas. My original plan was to change careers from the education field to the world of Cybersecurity as a pen tester. However, during the COVID lockdown, I discovered SheCodes because I wanted to get more comfortable with coding. I thought I would just practice making websites as a hobby, but after taking all four SheCodes workshops, I know that I really want to pursue a career as a front-end developer.
I like that there are programming language rules, but that I can still be creative within those rules. When I run into a bug, I let myself wallow in my agony for bit. But once I’ve decided that I really shouldn’t be like Michael Scott (The Office), I go out and try to find a solution on my own. And when that doesn’t work, I like knowing that I can reach out and get help from others. I’m still learning, and I’m looking froward to the journey ahead.
